On Friday we needed to say goodbye to our beloved brown tabby cat, Harley. He was 15 and had lived with us since he was about 2.5 years outdated.

Harley was a really affectionate cat who would begin purring as quickly as I walked into the room (one thing that ended up in a narrative in The Atlantic after a journalist requested me what made my cats purr). He was additionally an knowledgeable at opening doorways, which typically led to a couple adventures or no less than to additional treats.

Though he was an indoor cat, there can be moments after we couldn’t discover Harley anyplace. Then, after we hunted by means of the home, he would out of the blue be sitting in the midst of the corridor. It was as if he had teleported there from elsewhere.

Harley had a variety of medical situations that had been nicely managed with twice-daily insulin injections and tablets. He was recognized with coronary heart failure on the emergency vet about 16 months in the past, however he had been doing nicely since and his loss comes as a shock.

Harley leaves a legacy, particularly in my e book Purr: The Science of Making Your Cat Completely happy, the place there are numerous tales about him. He’s additionally talked about in anecdotes in Wag: The Science of Making Your Canine Completely happy, and in my upcoming e book about fearful and anxious canines.

Harley could be very a lot missed.
